Mud...Sweat...Tears

Well Rafflesia's first race at Northlands has come and gone and she did well considering the long layoff and change of track.

Just before her race the skies over Edmonton opened up with a violent thunder storm to produce a sloppy wet track.

The rag tag crew that make up the Venture Syndicate eagerly and nervously waited for our big star to make her appearance.

As she approached the paddock area her dappled coat was glowing under the lights of Alberta's biggest track. Like proud parents we all snapped pics and chatted as she prance around the post parade. I think we were the only owners in sight!

The rain was still coming down as the horses made their way to the starting gate. Then they were off. Raffy broke well and stalled the pace for most of the race. She seemed to weaken in the second turn and then finish evenly to take forth place. After the initial shock of her not winning sunk in we all just shrugged our shoulders and said we would get them next time out.

This was more than likely Raffy's first time in the mud and going two turns on a tight track. I may just be making excuses for her but look to see a big improvement next time out.

Needless to say it was a great night out and I for one can't wait to see her run again. Thanks again to John for making this happen.

  1. I hope Rafflesia does well for you but most of all, you both have fun. Invite us to the Derby when you make it.
